Starting off with working out can be a tough choice. Taking the step to actually get into the gym starts with you, even if it’s just you doing it at home. Putting your mind to exercise is one of the best things you can do for yourself. There are many ways to feel comfortable with how you look and feel. I’m gonna give you some beginner exercise tips for anyone who is looking to start off working out.

I have learned many things since I started working out, mentally and physically. One tip that stuck with me is to be consistent with whatever exercise you are primarily focused on. That could be paying more attention to your legs, chest, arms, etc. If you want to see change in something, you must put in the work to maintain that. Another tip is to fix your form to make sure you are properly doing the exercises. This was my biggest struggle when I first started. Watching videos on YouTube and other social media platforms helped me tremendously with how to do proper workouts so I can see progress with my body. These tips are gonna be your biggest friends when it comes to exercising:

How to get started

Getting started with working out can be the toughest part of it all. It all starts with your mind. Actually putting your foot down and saying, “Hey, let me start by doing this first and then working myself up”, is a good way to start. This creates discipline to at least know that your mind is ready for what’s next. When I first started, I didn’t know where to begin. Luckily I had help from my past dance team member who guided me on what beginner exercises to start off with. You can go on TikTok or YouTube to find easy workouts that aren’t too advanced that you can easily slide into. Go to your local gym and lock in!

Fun new ways to exercise

There are many ways to keep your exercises lively and fresh. Personally, I dance so that’s a workout in itself, but they’re tons of different activities for you to pursue. They have events like Zumba classes and even puppy yoga for example. Just research around to see what’s available in the area because you never know what you may like.

Keeping a good routine

Staying consistent in the gym is KEY! One moment you start slacking is when you lose your motivation for it. Keeping the momentum by doing sets of workouts helps build a routine for yourself. So for example, let’s say you start with leg day on Monday by doing 3 sets of 10 on the weighted squats, make sure you do the same for that next Monday, and so on. If you’re looking to get faster results, up the weights each week. This creates a base routine for you to get comfortable with.

Physical Health

Exercising is not the only thing you do when you’re working out. You also have to pay attention to your physical health. Eating more healthy such as fruits, and veggies, and drinking water. I cannot stress enough to DRINK. YOUR. WATER! That’s the most important part of exercising. You must stay hydrated for your body’s sake, if not your body will refuse to cooperate with your mind. Stretching is a good way to keep your body ready so you won’t injure yourself when doing heavy workouts. Add some cardio to that and you’re all set to achieving your body goals.
